That was the original log-in screen. I don't recall when it was changed.

It was changed a month or two before Factions was released and has been changed every time a new campaign/expansion was released. Unfortunately there's no way to change them back.

Unless ANet realeses such a thing, which I hope they do. The Campfire looks more fun than the shivery-cold mountain we have now (although, it may not work all that well given that we can now have twelve-ish characters rather than the original four).

Yes. Back then we could only have four character slots per account. Which is one of the reasons people have multiple accounts.

BTW: That shot was taken at the time of the first 'Mad King' festival (November 1, 2005).

Which is likely why they changed it.

Wow I played long before release of factions and don't remember that screen. Given it was along time ago and I was probably still in school and not playing very much back then.

I miss those days...

But yeah, they changed it a few months before Factions to this sort of pillar floating in the sea, and it was like the screen now - you'd click on icons and your characters would pop up, and you could move the camera.

Nightfall then changed it again, so did GW:EN.

The original screen will forever live on in my heart though...

Factions was released in January 2006 (iirc), so that would be only a couple months between the date of that screen shot and Faction release.

I miss the whale in that login screen.

@Tatile Been suggested, the response from Gaile(or another dev) is that its not technically possible. Likely because you can have upwards of 30(?) characters slots, not just a measly 12.

I knew it had been suggested, just didn't remember that Gaile had passed on that information. I presume she also said we couldn't have any new selection screens, or a back-catalogue (Factions and NF)? Also; 30 character slots, holy @#%$! That's a lot

There were two more loading screens after the original Yaks Bend-like one and before the present GW:EN one: there was one inspired by Factions and one by Nightfall. I think I liked the Factions one the best, personally.

I so miss the factions screen, that pillar, the sea which looked so cold and peacefull, the horison, and youre in the middle of it all... so tranquill, a perfect spot to go clear your head.

That screen would allways capture my imagination for a few seconds before i logged in....

There were suggestions about that too. I never got an answer, so I don't know if it's even close to possible or not.

I ask why they couldn't mesh the two (old log in screen and new designs and whatnot) so that you could have, maybe 6 characters standing around the fire at a time and then hit one of the arrow keys at the bottom of the screen those characters move away and a new batch of 6 appear. Kind of how they do it now at the bottom of the screen, but with more than one character.

Does anyone understand what I'm trying to say? It's kinda hard for me to explain and my photo editing skills or nonexistent so no visuals.
